"Development of solar-activated photocatalysts for hydrogen fuel generation"

Le Pr Fariborz Taghipour (University of British Columbia / http://www.chbe.ubc.ca/profile/fariborz-taghipour/) présent au LRS en septembre donnera deux séminaires intitulés, le premier :

"Development of solar-activated photocatalysts for hydrogen fuel generation" jeudi 15 septembre à 16 h salle du Conseil à l'UFR (T32-42:101)

Among renewable energy resources, solar energy is by far the largest usable resource, providing more energy to the Earth in one hour than all of the energy consumed by humans in a year. If solar energy is to be a major primary energy source, it must be captured, converted, and stored. The most attractive method of solar energy storage is in the form of chemical bonds of an energy carrier, such as hydrogen.

In this seminar we will discuss the development of a solar-activated photocatalysts for hydrogen generation by splitting water to hydrogen and oxygen. We will present the process of synthesizing nanostructured, solar-activated photocatalysts (GaN:ZnO) immobilized on support-structured materials with high electron mobility for efficient solar hydrogen generation.

"UV photo-reactors : from modeling & design to industrial application"

Le Pr Fariborz Taghipour (University of British Columbia / http://www.chbe.ubc.ca/profile/fariborz-taghipour/) présent au LRS en septembre donnera deux séminaires, le second :

"UV photo-reactors : from modeling & design to industrial application" lundi 26 septembre à 14 h salle de réunion (T43-44:317)

Ultraviolet (UV) irradiation has emerged as one of the best water purification alternatives in the last few years. Currently, many major cities in Canada, United States, and Europe (including Paris) are adopting UV as their primary water disinfection process, making UV one of the fastest growing water treatment technologies. Despite a growing number of studies on the UV photocatalysis/photo-oxidation of chemical pollutants, little is known about the photo-reactor design and process optimization of these technologies.

In this seminar, we will discuss the process of simulation, conceptualization and performance evaluation of UV photoreactors. We will present how a research study of UV photoreactors from the university laboratory became a real-world product.
