Research interests have been focused on solid, acidic and bifunctional catalysts, especially zeolite catalysts. She has been involved in catalyst development projects in the field of petroleum refining (FCC, Hydrocracking, hydroisomerization of paraffins and aromatics) as well as in the study of the deactivation of catalysts during the co-processing of bio-oils in the FCC process.

Other research topics are integrated in the area of environmental catalysis: Reduction of NOx and VOCs; Capture and Catalytic transformation of CO2 into gaseous or liquid fuels. Recently, some of these processes for pollutants abatement include photocatalytic treatment.

She published c.a 140 SCI papers, 8 chapters of books and 5 patent applications; she supervised 18 PhD students and 8 pos-docs.

She was coordinator of 13 national Projects (Funded by FCT and QREN), 2 European Projects and 8 bilateral cooperation projects.
