Using neutron spectroscopy to assess heterogeneous catalysts
Abstract. This lecture will show how inelastic neutron scattering (INS) can be a very powerful technique to study heterogeneous catalysts and heterogeneous catalytic processes. Contrary to X-ray techniques (synchrotron or not) neutron techniques are perfect to study hydrogenous species due to its high cross-section that makes it a one-of-a-kind nucleus to be studied. Focus will be put on how products can be probed across time and, in a second system, to assess what lies behind induction periods and how this correlates with the synthesis protocol of the catalyst.
